Pair Of Finest Known 1787 Fugio Cent “New Haven” Restrikes

Perhaps just 50 pieces were originally produced in silver (per Horatio Rust, as noted in Q. David Bowers’ 2009 work Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins). This is the Finest Known 1787 Fugio Silver “New Haven Restrike” of the approximate 20 available survivors which are known to exist today. Both sides of this coin exhibit desirable rainbow hued toning that exhibits an obvious “bulls eye” pattern which extends from the rims to the centers.
The most vivid colors are largely confined to the peripheries, while in the centers softer, pastel-tinged colors such as pink and apricot are noted. Smooth and satiny throughout, with nary a detraction from the sharply impressed devices, superb. Finest certified at PCGS or NGC, and particularly important as a condition rarity since a fair number of silver “New Haven Restrikes” are worn or otherwise impaired from having been mishandled by earlier generations of collectors. Truly a stunning coin!
1787 Fugio Cent “New Haven Restrike” Copper PCGS MS66 RB CAC Finest Known This frosty and fully lustrous Premium Gem has more than half its original red color with light olive and pale blue patina intermingled.
